Well here it is the last week of Jan 2013. what a month it has been,,
It was a good week this week even with the bitter cold, my new winter woollies made a big difference in how I handled the cold, one moring it was -30C with the windchill!!! I got a full week in at work with 2 hrs overtime and that will help the pay cheque that is for sure.
As for sewing I have managed to get my woolie top done!
So my total amount sewn so far from stash is 10 meters . that is the amount I hoped to get done for this month, as for new purchases I have been good, no new fabric for personal sewing, I did go to fabricland today to buy basting spray , more on why later in this post, and I bought to rements of a 1/4 meter to make potatoe bags for market this year.
Now here is the UFO I am talking about in the title of this post. This quilt was started 4 maybe 5 years ago, It has been so long that I cant remember !
It is a quilt that I started and had some really bad free motion stitching , did about 1/3 of the quilt on the one side and just gave up on it,
I know these are not the greatest pics but I hope it gives you some idea of the mess,I have done some reading and have watched a number of u tube videos on quilting and have decided to try spray basting the quilt and then will re stitch the quilt, been praticing free motion and I hope that I will have better results this time,,, but before I get to do this basting I have to rip out all the stitches that I have all ready done, ( it was pin basted ,and have removed them).. I think this is going to take abit to do, as I had sew all the squares 6 inches in rows and that will also have to be ripped out, my poor seam ripper is going to get a good work out !!
well that is all for now , Happy sewing to all

new winter woolies(leggigns)
Here it is Sunday again, the last week was a different one that is for sure, The work week went by slowly even though I only worked 3 days, laid off due to lack of work, which sucks but it is part of the business I work in, Thank goodness I am a long time full timer and don't get laid off that much any more but it still hurts the pocket book when it does..oh well
The good thing about it is that I had an extra day to sew,, so I finally got the paid sewing done! the dress is finished and will be given back to the girl on Monday. Yeah I cant wait to get it out of the apt , was not a fun project that if for sure, please read last Sunday post for the details.
With the extra day today to sew I was able to make 2 pairs of winter woollies, (long johns , Leggings ) it is going to get really cold this week the wind chill factor is going to be in the - 18 to- 20 *C range this week and that is during the daytime high, yikes ! and when you have to stand and wait for a bus these for me are a must.
I used McCall's 6173 view c . I know the fabric I used is ugly but no one will see them underneath my clothes and with me sewing from stash it is what I had to use,, fabric was bought to make muslin's of knit tops but I never got around to making them. I have enough left over that I have cut a top to go with these using the renfrew top pattern with cap sleeves cut out on the cutting table and hope to work on it this week, I made a size extra small and petited the patten and they fit good, sorry but no pic of me in them , not a pretty sight that is for sure
So for yardage sewn on this project it is 2 meters for the pants and 1 meter for the top for a total of 3 meters out of the stash, and 1 unused pattern finally put to use!
well tine to get of pc and back to sewing
Happy sewing to all and hope you all have a good week

A better week. sort of....
We are having a January thaw this weekend it is up to 9C today and raining , the snow is melting and I even was able to go out with not having to ware winter boots, running shoes, a winter coat no hat or gloves, really .. but it is not going to last long temperatures are going to start to drop and we are supposed to get snow this up coming week, booo. but there is nothing I can do about it the weather oh well, spring is just 4 months from now..
AS for sewing I have a paid project that is turning out to be a bit of a pain..client bought dress of Internet and well it is not , really not good , made in china , off grain , wrong size , etc . done most of the fixes except the hem , double hem that is, taking a break form it before I lose my mind
so for sewing for me I am working on winter woolies, (long johns). I know that they are not the most petty thing to make but they are a must have here for me, too cold not to have and the ones in the shops do not fit, even if I can find them, and way over priced for my budget,
The pattern I using is McCall's 6173
It has gotten good reviews on pattern review , so far all I have gotten done is to trace out the pattern piece , it is just one! got to like that,, but I need to make some petite adjustments , even with using the smallest size it is just to big way to long for starters. but once I get that sorted it will be a easy sew
happy sewing

A sad week at sewlittle time
Well I have to say so far 2013 has not been a good one,,
A good and kind fellow who would help anyone was taken from this earth way too soon,, leaving too small kiddies without their dad, beaten and left to die in a snow bank, no one should die this way.
I'm mad and sad all at the same time, here is a bit of background ,, he was the caretaker of my building and I got to know him over the 7 years he had been here. worked hard and did not feel it was just a job,, to him it was his home and he took pride in what he did and would help anyone , even doing things that were not part of his job,, stopping by to ask a older tenant if they needed something form the store as he was going, taking care of pets while the owners were way,.. just a few things the made him special in this day and age,, he was 29 and this wed he would have turned 30
rest in piece Shane you will be missed.....
I did managed to get though the 3 day work week, felt like 5 and I have managed to cut out another renfrew top view a with b sleeves, but right now my heart is just not into it right now
happy sewing to all

HAPPY NEW YEAR JAN 1 2013!!!!!!!!!!!
guess what ??? I sewed today and finished a top!!!
Yes it is true,,I made the Renfrew top view C and I have to say I love the way this turned out (sorry about the poor pic, messy sewing room) Im just so excited I could not wait to share
here are some of my thoughts in a mini review
The perfect basic tee! The Renfrew Top is a fitted knit top with sleeve and neckline variations. View A has long sleeves and a scoop neckline. View B has short sleeves and a deep V neckline. View C has a dramatic cowl neckline and three-quarter length sleeves. Mix and match any of the sleeves with any of the neckline options for unlimited possibilities!
Pattern Sizing:
0 to 16, I used a size 2 , this pattern sizing is made for a pear shape but it is easy to adjust to any body type
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
yes very much so,, I made view c
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instuctions are well written and easy to use, I have the earlier version which has a error in the step making the cowl neck, there is a copy of the right instuctions on the sewaholic blog. I for once followed how the instuctions were written, no problems, on the next version I will be using my own thought, just easier for me
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
After sewing all the reviews here I just had to get the patttern, It has sat waiting for months to get used and today was the day!
Fabric Used:
Cotton jesery form my stash, this year is going to all stash sewing, I got this fabric form fabricland
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
none, traced a size 2 and sewed,
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
oh yes will be making more, next time I will be making view B with A sleeves, so yes I would recommed it to others
Conclusion: a wounderfull pattern ,easy and fast, with lots of options to make it your own
Jan 1st and I have made one garment already all from stash fabric and pattern , great start to 2013!
happy sewing to all
