Happy Mothers Day to All

Happy moms day, to all moms , I would like to say thank you to my mom, she means the world to me, we did not always see eye to eye , but she always loved me no matter what I did or did not do.. she has been with me though the good times and the bad, love her so much, as I have gotten older we had become best friends as well as mom and daughter, I hope to have the same type of relationship with my girls too . I talk to her daily, she has called me every night since my husband has passed and that has been 8 years, just to make sure that I have had something to eat, she knows me well, as I will often not eat , I forget too ( I rarely feel hunger, so I forget to eat, I was born with it, Not a eating disorder). And yes she still worries on me, and I worry on her!
we share what we have done that day and what we are working on sewing ,, she sews too, she got back into sewing a few years ago, and she and I have a great time together working on our projects.
My mom , brother and I walk 3 times a week at the local wellness center, she has copd and can walk 3 to 4 km each time , some days she out walks us! not bad for a 70+ year old!
I am so grateful to have this time with my mom, everybody seems to lead such busy lives and time goes by so fast, so today and each day if you can, hug the ones that you love , think of them. and give thanks that you have them'
Now on to sewing
I have finely finished the two Asian quilts !! yah  and have started a new quilt. It is form the moda bakeshop free pattern called granny squares,, here is some pics of completed quilts and granny squares in progress

A new toy

Well.. I think spring is finally here, the grass is getting green and there are buds on the trees.. was starting to think that we would just miss spring and go right into summer.
This week had been a different one for me that is for sure, working nights for the first time in a long time took it toll on me ,, real tried but in a good way, learned a lot mostly what not to do, and just how much more I need to learn to do the job well, most of which is mind work... new to me computer stuff, but that is a good thing,,
As for sewing not much got done,, just too tried to sew, got some work done on second Asian quilt but not as much as I had hoped but later this afternoon I hope to get it done , at least the free motion quilting, binding will have to get done thought next week if I am up to it
Now to The New Toy.. I got a email about winning a contest from the quilt show .com , so I sent them my contact info and l did not think anymore of it, though maybe it was a pattern or a fabric sample, fast forward to this week,, on Tues morning my buzzer goes, waking me up,, working nights .half asleep.. who in the world would be buzzing me .. I  open the door to the post man. he has a large box, I look a little confused, he asks my name and I say yes that is me , I  sign for the package and hall it in to the apt. thinking to myself what is this? boy was I in for a big surprise , open the box and it is a accuquilter!!http://www.accuquilt.com/ I did not know what it was so I went online and looked it up.. wow. I still cant believe it. I never win anything!!  here is some pics

I have not played with it yet, but hope to later today.. I don't do applique but I am thinking of getting the dies that cut squares and strips , might sell the dies that came with it and use the funds to buy what I will use

Some good news at sew little time

It has been a good week for me at work, but not so much on the sewing front.....My job at work has changed.. I got a promotion!!! it means working different hours and I have to learn a few new skills fast! but I am excited about it,, three months of probation but that is ok. and I do get a bit of a pay raise so that makes it even better,, been a while since I have done shift work and that is going to take a bit to get used to , afternoons this week, and then days next.
Needless to say I have not made much progress on the quilts, but hope to get more done this week,not enough last week to even make it worth posting a pic.

WIP Sunday

Hi everyone, it has been a another busy week at work, but it was a good one, Thurs and Fri I was in first aid re training, learned a lot, and we had some laughs too, good for another three years, but was some tired by the end of the day, so no much sewing got done.
Yesterday was the quinte woodcarvers show, My brother is a wood carver and a member . I go every year to see all the wonderful work and to show support to my brother, it was a great show this year , best of all he won! four ribbons for his work. best is show for his class and his cravings was proudly displayed on the winners table.

As for me I am still working on the same quilt, not much done, but have managaed to get all the staright line quilting done and have started to free motion the boarders , so it is better than not getting anything done I guess,

sewing Sunday, works in progess

Happy sewing everyone, sorry I did not post last week, but it has been a busy couple of weeks at work and with life! not much time for sewing, been much too tired to do anything after work, as the saying goes,, all done in but my boot laces,
I have managed to spray baste three of the quilt tops that I have on the go, two Asian print ones are for market sales and the one with the kittens is just for me, so the Asian two have to be done first, paid sewing and sewing that is for sale has to come first, some days  I wish that it wasn't this way but bills need to get paid , and well I am great full for the work of paid sewing, it does take some of the fun out of sewing some time.
The first Asian quilt I am doing straight stitching lines starting with stitching in the ditch and then every half and inch , I want the pretty fabric to be the star of this quilt not the stitches. I have not decided how I am going to quilt the second Asian quilt, might just be a stipple or a swirl but it will be free motion for sure,

 

Sorry for the poor pic, but my good camera is not working so I had to use my phone, you can just see the corner of the kitten quilt and the second Asian quilt is on top, the quilt in momma janome is the one that I am straight stitching right now,

well I am going to say happy sewing to all and get back to sewing, It is going to be another busy week at work and I don't know how much I will get done though the week, till next Sunday ,have a good week,

A happy week with a surprise

It is finally spring! at least that is what the calendar says, but as for our weather, still winter, but they keep saying that is going to get warmer, temps are supposed to get to plus 4 *C this week , we will see.

I had a good week , busy but good, At work a sewing sister decided to clear out some of her stash of fabric and asked me if I would like some, I said ok....Yes I know I am on a fabric fast, and do not need any more fabric, but could not help myself and said yes,, This was last week and did not think anymore of it, well Monday comes and she says she has a small box for me, she mostly quilts  but has not been sewing much and knows that I have started to quilt, I say thank you and start work. the workday ends and I meet her at her car, ,,, She has a huge box, full of quilting fabric, good thing I had a ride home, no way I could have gotten this home on a city bus!

The box is full of flat quarters most with the tags still on! and a few scraps from her projects, One project was a panel with cats playing, with the binding all ready to go, all as I have to do is find a fabric in my stash for backing and quilt it, I was so happy and touched by her gift to me I have  made her a thank you present, a mug rug using some scraps that were in the box, all brown tones,, made it Monday night and gave it to her Tuesday at work, she loved it!!!

As for what else I have been up too, I made another mug rug, and played with making a few test blocks
